UHMW-PE
UHMW-PE, or Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene, with its polyethylene molecular weight, has become the material of choice for enhancing steel-backed impact pads. The combination of very high impact resistance and wear resistance with low friction properties is essential. UHMW-PE is the strongest and stiffest among all types of polyethylene for maritime applications, even surpassing steel as a material for improvement, and far superior to wood surfaces. UHMW-PE faceplate doesn't splinter or break, and it's not affected by sea vessels. It lacks granules, so it won't shatter or deform and can be easily cut, drilled, and machined. It is supplied in black – not only because it is the most economical choice but also because black is produced using a dual-sintering process, hardening UHMW-PE to enhance wear resistance further.
