In the jubilant atmosphere of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025), Hau Giang Biomass Energy Joint Stock Company solemnly held the inauguration ceremony of the Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant — a flagship project symbolizing the trend of sustainable and green energy development in the Mekong Delta region.

The Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant project is invested by Hau Giang Biomass Energy Joint Stock Company (HBE), with Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2) as the EPC contractor. With a solid track record and reputation in power infrastructure construction, PECC2 has demonstrated excellence in the execution of this project, ensuring outstanding construction quality and progress.

The overview of Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant

This is the first biomass power plant in Vietnam to apply traditional condensing steam turbine technology using biomass fuel, which is carbon-neutral and environmentally friendly — with rice husks as the main fuel source. The fuel is transported via a port system that accommodates vessels up to 300 tons. The project is equipped with advanced waste treatment technologies, meeting all environmental standards as required by regulations.

As one of the pioneering enterprises in the energy sector, PECC2 is currently focusing on developing three core service areas: integrated EPC general contracting, power plant operation and management, and high-quality mechanical fabrication.

In particular, in the field of power plant operation and management, PECC2 has a solid foundation of experience, having successfully operated 31 power plants with a total capacity of 2,400 MWp. This achievement not only demonstrates PECC2's systematic operational capabilities but also affirms its commitment to safety, efficiency, and performance optimization for every project undertaken.

In the journey to build this meaningful project, in addition to explosion-proof electrical equipment, DPKT Technologies Co., Ltd. is proud to have supplied laboratory equipment and testing instruments, playing an important role in ensuring the stable and efficient operation of the plant.

Once operational, the Hậu Giang Biomass Power Plant will become the first grid-connected biomass power plant in Vietnam utilizing rice husk fuel on such a large scale. With a capacity of 2x10MW, the plant is expected to supply approximately 130 million kWh to the national grid annually, while reducing carbon emissions by more than 36,800 tons of CO₂ equivalent each year. The plant contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the government’s net-zero emission goal by 2050. In addition, it will help diversify power sources and ensure energy security in Hậu Giang Province and the Mekong Delta region.
